Sara Noun

[Guest artist]

Artist and engineer, Sara Noun develops a multidisciplinary practice around sculpture, photography, text, and installation. Her work interrogates the normalizing mechanisms through which contemporary societies produce alienated bodies, assigned to efficiency and utility. Drawing on narratives of situated experience, those of women's bodies, workers, and foreigners, she constructs spaces of friction where the normative order is displaced, or even undermined. She works with materials available in her everyday life: utilitarian objects, photographs of urban spaces, and portraits. Through addition and assemblage, she weaves semantic, formal, and chromatic connections between them. From minimalist and conceptual approaches, as well as the vernacular architectures she grew up in, she retains an economy of gesture and material to build modular structures that enact personal narratives and reveal spaces of fragility and opacity.
