Mona Young-eun Kim

[Guest artist]

Mona Young-eun Kim is a Paris-based interdisciplinary artist from South Korea. Her work often features bright, artificial colours that make synthetic materials strangely seductive. Her practice moves between physical processes including sculpture with found objects, casting, stained glass and printmaking and emerging technologies such as AI, 3D, VR and AR. Through speculative scenarios and hypothetical futures, she examines various issues including the evolution of the urban landscape, plastic as a sacred material, and the construction of collective belief.

In Doublage (2021), illuminated shop signs are stripped of their original message, becoming vivid abstract forms, both geometric and organic. Using augmented reality, she invites viewers to digitally overlay the language of their choice onto the blank panels.

In La Croyance est synthétique (2025), medieval archives are fused with AI-generated imagery and synthetic figures consuming plastic in an endless feast where systems of knowledge and belief intersect and deteriorate.
